Galdric, son of a priest and a Knight Templar, learned the art of glassmaking during a long captivity in the Holy Land alongside Murano glassmakers. After his escape, he returned home and settled, at the request of his brotherhood, in a small southern village, Palau, to enrich the community with his art. The Templar's settlement could have gone smoothly, but that was without counting the jealousy and covetousness of the Bishop of Elne, who viewed this new windfall benefiting his rival with displeasure...
When strange phenomena strike the community of Palau and unexplained deaths begin to multiply, everything goes awry!
An investigation is launched, the hunt for the Devil is on!
The culprit, man or demon, must be flushed out and punished. And if, in the process, Palau's disgrace could benefit the Bishop of Elne, that would only be divine justice!
The story told by Robert Azaïs transports us to 13th-century Palau-del-Vidre, at a time when its reputation as the glass capital was yet to be established. In a lively and colourful style, the author does not hesitate to blend genres, using subtle anachronisms and clever esoteric, literary, and cinematographic allusions. "Un Templier à Palau" draws with equal delight from "The Name of the Rose," "Inspector Maigret," and "Letters from My Windmill."
