Having become a celebrity by playing a psychic on a popular television show, he attracted the attention of a serial killer, Red John, who murdered his wife and child. Since then, he has tried to atone by putting his observational talents at the service of the police. Operating as a consultant within a team of renowned investigators, he also hopes to track down his family's murderer. Created in 2008 by Bruno Heller, co-creator of the famous "Rome" saga, the "Mentalist" series ("The Mentalist" in its original version) broke audience records from its first broadcast on CBS in the United States. The concept of this strange, whimsical, and endearing character, who challenges the rules and certainties of his team of conventional police officers, is reminiscent of "House M.D." or "The Closer." While not truly original, "Mentalist" stands out for its intelligent writing, strong recurring characters (with the beautiful Robin Tunney and Amanda Righetti at the forefront), carefully selected supporting roles, and rather well-crafted investigations. Each episode allows us to learn more about the dark side of Patrick Jane, played by the charming Australian actor Simon Baker ("The Devil Wears Prada," "Land Of The Dead"). The first season includes twenty-three forty-two-minute episodes.
