All over the world, the nature and consequences of Nazism continue to fuel controversy. Hardly a year goes by without authors, or even politicians, approaching the history of the Third Reich in such a way that polemics ensue. Both in intellectual circles and among the general public, commemorative rituals do nothing to lessen the differing assessments of this abominable legacy. It took, for example, more than three decades for May 8th to no longer represent a day of defeat in Germany, but finally officially, as in almost all of Europe, the anniversary of Liberation. Too often, ancient myths persist in people's minds. False clichés remain. In "Suite et séquelles de l'Allemagne nazie," Lionel Richard shows that many media leaders and collaborators are far from dispelling these unfaithful visions. This is despite the intense demythologization work carried out by German democrats, particularly through education. Whether it concerns architecture or cinema, the army's practices during the war, the population's implications, Allied bombings of cities, the Resistance, or Collaboration, the analyses of the Third Reich proposed here prove to us how, more than ever, critical thinking is necessary.
