A FUN BOARD TO LEARN TO PROGRAM
Half the size of a credit card and costing less than €20, the micro:bit board is a nano-computer launched in the UK in 2016 by the BBC to introduce secondary school students to coding and controlling digital systems. It can be programmed from a PC, smartphone, tablet or even a Raspberry Pi. This board is compact, robust, easy to use, easy to connect, has a very large community and comes with a large number of extensions. Several programming languages are available to control it: Python, JavaScript, MakeCode...
This book focuses on programming the micro:bit board with Python, the official language for teaching computer science in high schools. It does not require any particular coding skills and is organised into three parts. The first lays the foundations of the Python language (variables, loops, functions, etc.), the second brings together various concrete applications that can be easily achieved with the micro:bit board, and the third presents more complex projects using the board's extensions. Readers will thus be able to build a stopwatch, a compass, or even play music.
