At the National Museum of Natural History in Paris, scientific luminaries are in an uproar: a meteorite predating the creation of the solar system could provide proof of the extraterrestrial origin of life. Old quarrels resurface. Is man the accidental product of evolution or the result of "intelligent design", in other words, of God?
The director of the Museum then calls upon American paleontologist and geologist Peter Osmond, a staunch atheist and opponent of creationist theories, and Italian Marcello Magnani, an astrophysicist dispatched by the Vatican.
But, upon his arrival, Peter Osmond discovers the horribly dissected body of biologist Anita Elberg. And for seven days, murders follow one after another...
It is precisely its realism and its refusal to resort to clichés that make this novel a success. Blending detective intrigue and scientific knowledge, this "angst-ridden novel" pits creationism against evolutionism. Saïd Mahrane, Le Point.
