Fifteen short stories, memories of a Vietnamese childhood, in a hamlet of peasant-hunters on the edge of the jungle. A Vietnam such as we barely or do not know at all. An extremely harsh and unforgiving nature, beings whose lives are threatened every day by violent death. We meet all sorts of wild creatures, sometimes submissive like the buffalo Tank, sometimes formidable like pythons and other monstrous snakes... Friends or enemies, you have to learn to live with them; to use cunning, to understand them, sometimes even to tame them. How can one not become attached to this lost country, how can one not regret this native land that was nonetheless not gentle?
