Jerusalem, 1948. Near the Damascus Gate, Hind, a young Palestinian woman, discovers a group of 53 children, huddled and trembling. The adults of their village have been massacred. They are the only survivors. Hind takes them in, prepares a meal for them. Over the months, the number of Palestinian orphans reaches thousands, and "Mama Hind" founds the Dar El-Tifel Institute. At 5 years old, Miral joins the refuge. Educated, protected by the reassuring walls of the institution, she is safe from the world's turmoil. But when she goes to teach children in a refugee camp, she becomes aware of their daily life. And then she awakens to politics: should she take up arms for the future of her people, or fight, through education, for peace?
