1903. Electricity spreads to the countryside. Valentin Lescure, mayor of Cornemule, a large village in Corrèze, sows panic when he proudly proclaims: "I'm going to make the sun shine at midnight!" Until then, the eight hundred inhabitants of the commune had only used candles and oil lamps for light, and were quite content. But with municipal elections approaching, the mayor is betting on the fairy electricity. Misery! The cows will die, men will lose their virility... Maître Béranger leads the revolt, supported by all the farmers and the candle maker. One fine evening, however, light bursts forth in the square. And in the process reveals an unsuspected nocturnal activity...
