Desperate after her husband's death, Rebecca Brandt, secluded in her Provençal home, is about to end her life when Max, her husband's best friend, suddenly appears, declaring he wants to spend a few days on vacation with her. He is accompanied by a young student couple, Marius and Inga, whom he has just picked up hitchhiking. Rebecca forgets her grim plan through their contact and suggests they camp in her garden. After a few days, Marius, who seemed so lighthearted and cheerful, suddenly becomes irritable and aggressive, especially towards Rebecca, who, incredulous, gradually realizes that the nightmare has only just begun...
