At the end of March 1931, a chilling wind swept through Naples. The Royal Theater San Carlo was preparing to stage "Cavalleria Rusticana" and "Pagliacci" with the celebrated tenor Arnaldo Vezzi, a world-renowned artist and friend of the Duce. But the singer was found lifeless in his dressing room, his throat slit by a sharp fragment of his broken mirror. The case was entrusted to Commissioner Ricciardi, little appreciated by his superiors due to his character and atypical methods, but recognized as a valuable investigator.
