The Joys of Motherhood Text by Élise Gravel and Caroline Allard Illustrations by Élise Gravel Collection "Album Les 400 coups" Directed by Andrée Lauzon THE BOOK The world of motherhood is the subject of countless works in which expert advice plays a predominant role. This book cleverly parodies these educational bibles.
A collaboration between two authors known for their sense of derision, The Joys of Motherhood (poil au nez) presents suspicious advice, astounding real-life cases, intractable expert opinions, absurd fake advertisements, and pedagogical suggestions that will make your hair stand on end.
To be offered to all mothers of good will, who have absorbed all the educational precepts of serious books and who are ready for a good dose of humor and escapism.
THE AUTHORS Élise Gravel was born in Montreal in 1977. She was lucky enough to grow up in a house full of comic books and books, with parents who loved to invent stories for her every evening. She spent a lot of time with children in the schools and daycares where she worked. Élise would always want to be surrounded by children because they give her tons of outlandish ideas for other books, and she wants to make them laugh a good deal as a thank you for their pleasant company!
Caroline Allard's literary life can be summarized in three stages: 1) She first delighted her high school friends with her funny but cruel stories and poems about their ridiculous boyfriends; 2) In her late twenties, she wrote short science fiction and horror stories that enjoyed confidential but lively success on the Internet, in magazines all mysteriously disappeared today; 3) In 2006, she finally understood that her style was at the confluence of humor, cruelty, and absolute horror. The chronicles of an unworthy mother thus came into being, first on the blogosphere before being published by Éditions du Septentrion and presented as a web series on Radio-Canada.
