The Volcano's Rages, Gisèle Pineau

In Guadeloupe, Cynthia is starting sixth grade. An average student, neglected by her mother who is expecting a new baby, she often takes refuge with Père Francis, the old farmer who lives secluded on his land behind their house. One day, Mister Jones, the English teacher, suggests taking the whole class on a trip to the neighboring island of Montserrat. Père Francis is sad at the news: he has always dreamed of going there one day. As for the trip to this island, it will hold many surprises, and the return to Guadeloupe, many scares! A danger soon threatens Montserrat and its inhabitants: the Soufrière volcano begins to spew ash, and no one knows how far its rages will go...
