A day will come when, in my turn, I will tell Provence to my grandchildren. They will gather around me on the terrace, in the shade of a pine tree, facing the sea, and I will open this book. I will tell them about the men and women who forged the history of this land that stretches from the Rhône to the Alps. Because this land is where I grew up, because it was my parents' refuge, my children will put down roots here. They will always be able to count on the color of the sky, the warmth of the sun, and the gentleness of the wind to become men. The love for this land and this sea, in which I immerse myself today with the same joy as when I was a child, is the love of nature, sung by the cicadas. The love of Provence, quite simply.
