1968. In St Austell, a small coastal town in Cornwall, Jonathan Kellaway takes a summer job at Walter Wren & Co. There, he meets the founder's two grandchildren, Oliver and Vivien Foster. A bond forms between the three young people, and Jonathan is soon considered a member of the family.
