Late 19th century, in spring. In the gentle Riberal, in Northern Catalonia, Lucie gives birth to twins. Of fragile constitution, the winegrower Jepe's wife can only breastfeed one of the newborns: Joan. The other, Jordi, goes to live with a wet nurse.
The Fabrègues twins will be marked for life by this original separation. While one flourishes with his biological family, the other grows up with his wet nurse, in resentment and a deep sense of abandonment.
Then comes the wine crisis of 1907 with its share of demonstrations, revolts... In this difficult context, personal dramas are added that will separate the Fabrègues twins again. Forever?
A major Catalan novelist, Hélène Legrais traces, in this beautiful book imbued with her boundless love for her land, the parallel destinies of two brothers as different in character as they are physically similar. Their story has the power of a Greek tragedy.
