Rodrigue and Chimène are about to be married, but a serious quarrel divides their fathers: following a rivalry, the Count, Chimène's father, slaps Don Diègue, Rodrigue's father. The affront can only be avenged by the Count's death, but Don Diègue, too old, gives his sword to Rodrigue to avenge his honor. Rodrigue then faces a painful dilemma: lose Chimène or his honor. What will Rodrigue do?
