Cañuto, a former bank robber convicted to a psychiatric asylum, is suddenly released. Having become a hairdresser, he takes on a new job: stealing documents. Eduardo Mendoza was born in Barcelona in 1943. He is one of the most widely read and translated Spanish authors of recent years. All his novels are available in paperback, notably La Ciudad de los Prodigios (elected "Best Book of the Year" by Lire in 1989) and Una comedia ligera (Prix du Meilleur Livre étranger, 1998).
"There aren't many books that make you devour them with tears... of laughter in your eyes."
La Vie Translated from Spanish by François Maspero
