This saga transports us through several eras of French history, spanning the late 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. From Picardy in this first volume, we will later travel from Paris to Catalonia, in this France that strives to remain the country that voted for the Rights of Man, but much less so for the Rights of Women. I invite you on a journey through time, alongside women and men who have shaped and continue to shape France. Let us first follow this Italian immigrant, who flees his country and, like many other Europeans, comes to settle in the north of our country. We will journey through time until the eve of the Great War, through the eyes of a woman who develops through joys and sorrows, as periods succeed one another in this industrializing France, where a bourgeois class emerges, while the working class struggles for rights, thus giving rise to the first labor unions. In contrast, the peasant class sees little change in its situation. Life is difficult, harsh for the women of these popular classes; throughout these pages, Maria will intertwine her existence with the movements of a transforming society, despite the shackles of the Napoleonic Code that still and always defrauds women.
