On February 9, 1949, floating in the turbulent waters at the bottom of the Puits d'Enfer chasm, near Les Sables d'Olonne, the body of a man was discovered tied up and gagged in a wicker trunk. It was the beginning of one of the most famous post-war cases that would lead the police from the Vendée coast to Paris, where the crime had taken place and where the investigation was organized. This drama of frustration and greed came to a terrible end at the Assizes of the Seine, where one of the actors was none other than the famous lawyer, René Floriot. This sensational case, which remained in many memories like those of Landru or Petiot, had never been told.
