Abstract:
Through four intertwined stories set in New York, London, Oxford, and Jerusalem, a mysterious desk becomes the common thread of a novel deeply rooted in memory, secrecy, and the power of writing.
In New York, a young novelist, Nadia, inherits a legendary desk with 19 drawers, once given by an enigmatic poet, Daniel Varsky. This object, which reportedly belonged to Federico Garcia Lorca, seems to carry an invisible history. Years later, Daniel's daughter comes to claim it.
In London, Arthur discovers, after his wife's death, a hidden life he never suspected.
In Oxford, Isabelle, an American student, falls in love with the son of an antique dealer involved in the restitution of Jewish property stolen by the Nazis.
In Jerusalem, a father tries to warn his writer son, Dov, about the inseparable links between pain and creation.
A polyphonic novel, carried by a central object, where each drawer seems to open onto an intimate truth. This story pays homage to the power of literature, the memory of peoples, and the silences passed down from generation to generation.
