Fifteen-year-old Doria has a sharp wit, an encyclopedic knowledge of TV, and dreams that wake her up. She lives alone with her mother in a housing estate in Livry-Gargan, ever since her father left one morning to find a younger, more fertile wife in Morocco. For Doria, that’s mektoub, destiny: "It means that whatever you do, you’ll get screwed." So she might as well enjoy the present with those who love her, or pretend to.
First, her mother, a cleaning lady in a Formule 1 hotel in Bagnolet, and the sunshine in her life. Her friend Hamoudi, who knew her when she was "no bigger than a stick of hash." Mrs. Burlaud, her psychologist, who wears garters and smells of head lice treatment. Or Aziz, the grocer from the Sidi Mohamed Market, with whom Doria tries in vain to set up her mother.
Kiffe kiffe demain is first and foremost a voice, that of a child from the projects.
A novel full of vigor, humor, and life.
