Selfish and cynical, Saul Karoo lies like he breathes and drowns his family neuroses in vodka. His job as a script doctor involves distorting masterpieces to align them with Hollywood standards. When his career crosses paths with Leila Millar, a mediocre young actress, he unexpectedly decides to take her under his wing. For they are bound by an unspeakable secret...
Born in former Yugoslavia in 1942, Steve Tesich grew up in the United States, where he became a playwright and screenwriter. Karoo is his second and last novel, completed a few days before his sudden death in 1996.
"Virtuosic and gripping." Le Magazine littéraire "A breathtaking fiction." Télérama "A great contemporary tragedy." Vogue Translated from English (United States) by Anne Wicke
