Espionage and art trafficking at the heart of the Provençal Resistance Provence, April 1944. Faced with the German enemy, the Gestapo, but also local gangsters, the Resistance is organizing in cities and in the maquis. Juliette Lecompte, a young art restorer and active member of the Libération-Sud network, sees the two facets of her life unexpectedly intersect when John Cavendish, an English captain, is parachuted in the middle of the night not far from Marseille. At stake: two Cézanne paintings of inestimable value.

To get their hands on the Master's works, many factions will clash, including a crooked lawyer, members of the militia, but also Goering, a great art collector in addition to being a leading figure in the Nazi party, and especially Hitler. In this whirlwind of action and danger, one question remains: who is manipulating whom, and what is John Cavendish's true mission?
