Water stories: Revue Sud-Ouest européen n° 54, Philippe Dugot

The six articles in this issue address highly topical water-related themes: water availability, adaptation to disasters, resilience, management and uses of natural areas... mainly in the Pyrenees and southwestern France.

By definition, a varia issue is characterized by the diversity of topics covered. This is precisely what makes it so interesting, offering a consolidated view of the plurality of geographical research, its subjects, and methods of analysis. That said, among the six articles that make up this issue, five can, to varying degrees of obviousness, be linked to the question of water. One discusses the issue of water sharing for irrigation in southwestern France. Another addresses the management of the delta of a small river, the Leyre, in the Landes de Gascogne regional park. In a third article, the damage caused by water in municipalities in the Aude department is highlighted, with a question about adaptation to these disasters. The relationship to water is less obvious in the following two articles, but it remains an essential support for the activity described. One article examines the implementation of a European subsidy scheme in a fishing territory on the Hérault coast, while the second presents the results of a survey on ski tourers in the Pyrenees, measuring the democratization of a certain mountain culture around snow. A final article deals with the question of natural borders in the Pyrenees, more precisely on the side of the Iraty massif in the Basque Country. Water is subtly present as the delimitation may or may not have retained the watershed line between France and Spain.
