Agnès, an exemplary wife to a charming but chauvinistic man, leaves her husband after thirty years of loyal service. She becomes a novelist and believes she has found happiness in the arms of her editor. But... by a twist of fate, he dies in an accident on the very day that the husband of her childhood friend, Aline, passes away in the midst of a romantic nirvana. Luckily for Agnès and Aline, their two ordeals are lightened by this double post-mortem revelation: their beloved deceased, whom they believed to be virtuous, were in truth utter hypocrites.
