In late September 1966, HE, a man in his sixties, embittered by life's hardships, decided to undertake a journey from his home to the island of Oléron. Accompanied by his dog, he set off on foot from Auvergne to Charente-Maritime, following country paths and secondary roads. Along the way, he disrupted the monotony of the people he met. Colorful characters, sometimes as solitary as himself. He was there, slumped in his old armchair with worn leather whose original green color had faded to a washed-out green due to too many long periods of idleness, repeating the phrase over and over in his head: "I've always dreamed of seeing the ocean.
" The house is empty. Not a single painting on the walls. No photos, except for one of a dog. Oh! Not the one of the dog whimpering in his armchair, caught in the whirlwind of his dreams, but the one of his mother, whom he had to have put down six years ago now.
