Reverend Rachel Howard has vanished, and her dark, apocalyptic sermons no longer echo across the paradise island of Key West. Her behavior had become bizarre, her tone exalted, leading everyone, including the police, to believe she is fleeing to hide a nervous breakdown. But not her sister Liz Ames, who drops everything to go to Key West and search for her. Her only clue: a cryptic message from Rachel on her answering machine.

Liz has not been in Key West for twenty-four hours before violence erupts. Suspicious deaths follow one another. Against the backdrop of a hurricane, ritualistic crimes are committed, strangely reminiscent of murders committed by a serial killer now out of commission.
