Wars, revolutions, epidemics, disappearing worlds, collapsing economies...
Here is an overview of the crises that have shaken the world, a study that offers us tools for reflection to better understand current or future crises
Between the destiny of the Mayans, that of the inhabitants of Easter Island, of Europeans in 1929, of the Chinese after 1945, there is one common point: no one saw the crisis coming and, above all, no one knew how it would end. Would a new world emerge, as after the year 1000 or the fall of Rome, or an interminable chaos, as in Italy from 1943-1946, in Spain in 1810 or in Iran after the Shah's departure?
Some of the best French historians have devoted themselves to studying these decisive moments, when an event breaks the order and balance of time. Not to draw any lessons from them, there never are any, but because historical perspective helps us reflect on our present.
