The two texts in this work provide an introduction to psychoanalysis aimed primarily at non-specialists. Five Lectures on Psycho-Analysis consists of the lectures delivered by Freud in 1909 during his trip to the United States, where psychoanalysis was still largely unknown. It includes an account of the origins of psychoanalysis, "invented" by the hysteric Anna O., as well as an introduction to central issues: dream interpretation, infantile sexuality, and the Oedipus complex. Freud concludes with the nature of neuroses and taking refuge in illness. In On the History of the Psycho-Analytic Movement (1914), Freud recounts the difficult beginnings of psychoanalysis and the resistance it encountered. He clarifies his reflections on several contentious points, mainly related to the concept of "libido."
