In another life, my name would have been Odenkey. In another life, I wouldn't have been French. And here I am now, a blue-clad captain, an armband on my sleeve, a rooster on my heart, humming La Marseillaise, as if I hadn't been born in Ghana, its capital Accra, but in Nice or Quimper. On the eve of one of my last major sporting events, the 2002 World Cup, football once again takes me back to the beginning of the story: Ghana, France, a black father, a white father. I wanted to explore this dual destiny, to tell my lives, all my lives: the French one, the African one, the one of football and the other, more intimate, beautiful and painful at the same time. Never have I gone so far in my confidences; never have I revealed so many details about the behind-the-scenes world of football, from Nantes to OM, from Milan to the French national team.
