Some already have them: pets, protected species, and livestock. But the rights we have granted them are minimal and inconsistent. We treat dogs, which we consider family members, differently from pigs, which are reduced to mass-produced objects slaughtered in undignified conditions. Yet pigs and dogs show similar sensitivity and intelligence. How did we come to classify them into such different categories? It's because we are speciesist. The term, little known in France, will soon be part of our vocabulary. Like racism and sexism, whose logic it extends, speciesism consists of treating two species with the same characteristics differently, without any valid reason. Just as we long denied women the same rights as men. The affirmation of anti-speciesism will be that of animalism, a philosophical movement that promotes the need to grant rights to all animals, because of their capacity to suffer. Far from being anecdotal, animalism embodies the most revolutionary ideological movement; for the first time in 2000 years, it intends to move our Western thought systems away from their anthropocentric logic and recognize that we, who are animals, have moral obligations towards our cousins. Above all, animalism is part of a political ecology logic, far removed from that embodied in elections. No longer a superficial ecology, which only cares about preserving ecosystems, resources, and a few endangered species, but a deep ecology, which completely rethinks the place of humans in the world. So that they no longer live as parasites, but in symbiosis with all forms of life. This requires a rethinking of our institutions and breaking the short-term vision of political time. It also forces us into an intellectual reform that questions the notion of "profit". Capitalism, socialism, communism, neo-liberalism are today discredited, if not outdated.
