ALTERGOVERNMENT: 18 CITIZEN MINISTERS FOR A REAL ALTERNATIVE, ARIES/AZAM/DUFUMIER/DURU

May 2012. Nothing went as planned. The outgoing president and his most serious challenger were both swept away by a great breath of fresh air. Legally, without violence, the French people have just accomplished a new revolution. After a clear campaign marked by genuine popular enthusiasm, the candidate of the Independent Movement for a Real Citizen Alternative (Mirac) won the second round of the presidential election with over 55% of the votes. Very quickly, a government was formed, a new kind of government: an alter-government. It is composed of eighteen citizens from diverse backgrounds. None of them are professional politicians, a first in the history of the Fifth Republic! All these citizen-ministers, however, fully intend to prove to the French people who elected them that the liberalism that reigns supreme over our societies today is not inevitable: yes, a real social and democratic alternative is possible. All this strongly resembles fiction, and yet... Never before have so many known and recognized personalities for their respective commitments been gathered in a single book. Each of these authors, putting themselves in the shoes of a minister, details here the principles of their action and the measures they are preparing to implement. Through programs distilled with rare simplicity and, for once, without euphemisms, the common consciousness and imagination of a more just and egalitarian world are crystallized. What if this French Spring one day became a reality?
