It's not easy being a thirteen-year-old girl, enduring the mocking stares of boys in a drab city. It's not easy coping with emergency departures so her father can find a new job. Especially when this exile has been part of your life since birth: Alice is the daughter of political refugees. But why not ignore the troubles and seek out small joys where they are, in a fleeting friendship or a blossoming love? Sylvain Levey casts an incisive, tender, clear-sighted, and hopeful gaze on the life of this Chilean-born teenager. Through voices, internal monologues, and theatre that sometimes becomes narrative, the author offers a palette of emotions with perfect precision.
