Six days in the life of Caumes, experiencing his first love.
Six days in January 2015 when France plunges into terror.
Tonight, Caumes is 17 and awaiting the deluge. He knows one thing: at the end of the year, he will leave his hometown to join his older brother in Paris. Paris, the city of his dreams. Tonight, Caumes is 17 and also awaiting a miracle which, to his great astonishment, occurs: Esther – the subject of all his fantasies – finally decides to address more than three words to him, to look him straight in the eyes and hint at "more if affinities"...
It is Tuesday, January 6, 2015, and Caumes' world is turned upside down: first love is on the horizon, along with the obsessive prospect of "the first time." Except that the next day, it is France's turn to be shaken: two terrorists force their way into the Charlie Hebdo offices and kill eleven people...
At the heart of it all is this: a week, day by day, and almost hour by hour, experiencing a wild and exhilarating passion; but also a week glued to screens, trying to grasp the horror unfolding, trying not to confuse continuous news with just another TV thriller. How does love (which, by definition, posits that "the world can well fall apart") coexist with death on the march? How can one hold all of that in a single body, in a single consciousness? How can one fully breathe in the scent of the girl one loves and understand, at the same time, that the world awaiting us is in ruins?
